Who is John Titor?

Stephen W. Hawking once asked, “If time travel is real, why haven’t we met them yet?”

On November 02,2000, a person using the name Timetravel_0 (later known as John Titor) responded to an Art Bell forum: Post2Post.com, titled, “Time-travel Paradoxes”.  John introduced himself as a military time traveler from the year 2036 stationed at an Army base in Tampa, FL. His assignment was to travel to 1975 and obtain a computer system (IBM 5100) and return with it to 2036. He took it upon himself to stop at the year 2000 to warn us of a possibly impending nuclear disaster.

Not every event John described has come to pass.  However, there are many things he said that ring eerily accurate.  John’s extensive knowledge of technology, corroborated by specific and accurate description is too precise to be ignored.   I will now elaborate on some of John’s most notable posts.  

The IBM 5100

“We need the system to “debug” various legacy computer programs in 2036. UNIX has a problem in 2038.  – John Titor  (Schwarz, 2011)

“The 5100 isn’t required for its reliability, its needed to translate between APL, UNIX and a few obscure IBM mainframe languages.” Posted by John Titor 02-02-2001 6:34am

To the average person, the 5100 had a great reputation for reliability and portability.  However, the public would not discover Its hidden features until the year 2000.  IBM had chosen to hide the 5100’s ability to emulate programs in both BASIC for system/3 and APL for system/370 (the “system” in this case refers to IBM mainframes). Bob Dubke, one of the IBM 5100 engineers, stated this was because of worries about how [IBM’s] competition might use it. (Schwarz, 2011)

John’s grandfather had worked on the 5100; so, he was aware of the 5100’s hidden capabilities.  He suggested that the 5100 could stop the impending UNIX problem.

All-Optical-Atomic Clock

It appears that John described the all-optical-atomic clock in a November 7, 2000 post explaining the function of his time machine.

“The C204 unit uses 4 cesium clocks. The C206 uses 6 cesium clocks but they use an optical system to check the oscillation frequency. This makes the worldline divergence confidence much higher.” Posted by John Titor 11-07-2000

Three of the world’s premier measurement laboratories – including the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) – conducted experiments on four of the world’s best optical frequency rulers.  The amazing results were reported in the March 19, 2004, issue of the journal Science.  The results marked a significant step toward next-generation “atomic clocks” – based on optical rather than microwave frequencies. Such clocks are expected to be as much as 100 times more accurate than today’s best timekeeping systems.  (Steffine, 2004)

CERN and their Large Hadron Collider

August 2015:The staggeringly complex LHC ‘atom smasher’ at the CERN centre in Geneva, Switzerland, will be fired up to its highest energy levels ever in a bid to detect – or even create – miniature black holes.

“Just as many parallel sheets of paper, which are two dimensional objects [breadth and length] can exist in a third dimension [height], parallel universes can also exist in higher dimensions.” Mir Faizal – one of the three-strong team of physicists behind the experiment.

“We predict that gravity can leak into extra dimensions, and if it does, then miniature black holes can be produced at the LHC.

True to his word, John left our worldline on March 21, 2001.  It is rumored that he sent a “farewell” video to two of his most trusted friends.  He made such a lasting impression on us, that he is still often discussed.  There are those that defend his credibility with such conviction that it almost seems cult-like.
